Sacraments & Liturgy

The sacraments are the central moments of Catholic life. At St. Leo the Great, all seven sacraments are available across our eight church locations. Here is what you need to know about each one.

Baptism

Baptism is the sacrament that begins a person's life in the Catholic faith.
We celebrate baptisms across all eight locations. If you are looking to have your child baptized, or if you are an adult seeking baptism, the process begins with a short form. A member of our team will follow up to walk you through the next steps and schedule the baptism at the location of your choice.

First Communion

First Holy Communion is typically celebrated by children in second grade through our religious education program.
If your child is preparing for First Communion, enrollment in religious education is the first step. If you are an adult who was baptized Catholic but never received First Communion, our Becoming Catholic program can guide you through that process.

Confirmation

Confirmation is the sacrament through which a baptized person is strengthened in the Holy Spirit and completes their initiation into the Church.
We offer Confirmation preparation for high school students through our religious education program. Adults seeking Confirmation are welcome through our Becoming Catholic program.

Reconciliation (Confession)

Reconciliation is available at all eight of our locations on a regular schedule. It is also available by appointment at any location.

Marriage

Marriage preparation and wedding ceremonies are available across all eight locations.
Our marriage preparation program, Witness to Love, pairs engaged couples with mentor couples who accompany them through the preparation process. One of our priests coordinates all marriage preparation centrally. Ceremonies can be scheduled at whichever of our eight churches the couple prefers.
The process typically begins at least six months before the intended wedding date.

Anointing Of The Sick

The Anointing of the Sick is available to anyone who is seriously ill, facing surgery, or approaching the end of life. It is also available to those who are elderly and frail.
Our clergy are available to come to homes, hospitals, and care facilities. Please do not wait until a situation becomes critical. If you or a family member needs this sacrament, reach out to us.

Funerals

Catholic funeral rites are available at all eight locations. Our clergy and staff will work with your family to coordinate the readings, music, and details of the Mass.
When a death occurs, families typically contact the church where their loved one was most connected. From there, our team will guide you through every step of the preparation.

Quinceañeras (XV)

We support quinceañeras (XV) for young women across our parish family. A quinceañera Mass gives thanks to God for a daughter's fifteenth birthday and blesses this next step in her life of faith. Here's how to plan one.
1. Contact Noemi Morales at faithform2@stleoracine.church at least six months before your daughter's XV date.
2. Bring a sacramental certificate and a $100 deposit to reserve the date at your initial meeting. 3. Complete four classes and a retreat in the six months before the XV, scheduled at that initial meeting.
4. Pay the remaining $300 balance 30 days before the date.
